I am beginning the first session of this biblical parent training DVD series on Monday 24th March at 7pm in Kaikohe. (also added another evening - Fridays, beginning Friday 28th March at 6pm). The series is called “Parenting Is Heart Work”, and the philosophy is - “Learn a heart-based approach instead of relying on behavior modification. Practical, biblical solutions to common problems in your family. Topics include: How to give instructions in a way that builds cooperation and responsibility. How to correct children so they change their hearts, not just their behavior. Seven categories of consequences and a strategy for using them. An understanding of where bad attitudes come from and how to change them. Ideas for connecting emotionally to your kids in order to soften their hearts and make them more teachable.” There are 8 35-minute training sessions on DVD with handouts for notes and questions for group discussion. Although this is a biblically founded resource, you don’t have to be a Christian to get great benefit from the advice and steps used in this heart based approach. I have only recently begun reading some of the resources myself and taking simple steps, and I have already seen amazing improvements in attitude.
