Thankyou POSITION VACANT: Trainee Fleet Engineer - Northern Prawn Fishery, Cairns If you are young and enthusiastic and interested in a career in marine maintenance and engineering, have a relevant trade or tertiary qualification then we would like to hear from you. Austral Fisheries is one of Australia’s largest integrated commercial fishing companies with interest in both Australian Northern Prawn Fishery and Southern Ocean Deep Sea Fishing. The right candidate will work with and understudy some of the best in the business as they are exposed to a range of activities including planning, budgeting, man management, technical support and regulatory compliance. The position is based in Cairns for this role as Trainee Fleet Engineer for our prawning operation. This will involve some time at sea and possible travel to other ports. Ideally you will have experience in commercial fishing with an engineering background, however this is not essential. A trade background in shipbuilding, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical or diesel fitting and hydraulics with a relevant tertiary qualification will be highly regarded. Reporting to the Engineering Manager you will be a key member of a small team and be responsible for the daily communication to the fleet of ten trawlers when they are at sea and through the team co-ordinating repairs and engineering requirements. When the fleet aren’t fishing your primary responsibilities will be planning, repairing and carrying out all planned maintenance. Projects are likely to encompass all aspects of engineering, mechanical, electrical and refrigeration. You will provide hands on supervision undertake workshop maintenance and special projects as required. All vessels must meet government survey requirements.
