Hi everybody. Thanks for your tremendous outpouring of support, Im sorry Ive been unable to respond to all of you. I figure this will be easier to do in mass as opposed to individually. Ill try to answer as many questions as I can. Please reach out to özlem Kesik and Aaron Zelick - theyve been my rock stars though this. On Tuesday morning I had a stroke. The stroke was a result of a blood clot in my brain that ruptured. At this time, we think the cause is due to the blood thinner Ive been using not being fda approved for the head, only the chest and body. (Are you okay?) Yes. Im in the ICU at legacy Emanuel. I am recovering, the worst is behind us. (Is there permanent damage?) At this time it looks like no, thank goodness. The stroke was minor enough that Ive been passing neurological exams and physical exams easily. We will find out a note complete answer in the next few months. (What was it like?) Very, very painful. In the moment, we dont tend to want to admit to ourselves that were in the worst pain of our lives, but I can say with confidence, retrospectively, that it was. (Is it going to happen again?) I am, in general, at increased risk for this kind of stuff. There is no data that suggests the onset of one stroke increases risk for secondary or tertiary cases. (What can I do?) Be your lovely self and keep me in your thoughts. I am getting a bit inundated with texts and calls at the moment, so please remember that while I am very grateful, I am probably purposefully ignoring all calls from non-family at the moment. I care about you all deeply, but theres only so much I can be awake and alert. If you want to do something, send flowers to the beautiful and amazing Ozlem, for never leaving my side. (Can I visit you?) Short answer- maybe. My blood pressure trends to increase with more humans in the room. As you can imagine, blood pressure and brain bleeding tend to be a pretty important duo to keep in check. We may have to kick you out, or you may only get to visit for a short time. Please contact Oz if youd like to see me. (When are you discharged?) We dont know. Probably at least a few more days. Love yall.
