Hi everyone!! Happy new years!! A few weeks ago Bob Schneider posted about my husband Derek Hogg, who is a Kankakee firefighter and battling ALS. We are going to attend the city council meeting January 5 to tell the city officials about our issues. We are not going to bash the mayor because that could backfire. We are going to ask that the mayor change her mind about letting fellow firefighters help Derek out by either donating their time or sick days. To share a little background on our situation, Derek can no longer work due to muscle loss. Firefighters do not pay into the ss system therefore what Derek gets for disability is not nearly enough to support our family. Although I am seeking employment, I would never make enough. We NEED Derek to receive a pension, he is only 6 months shy. He has worked for as long as he could and deserves it. We are already struggling with him having a terminal illness and we are worrying about our finances and the future of our children. I am writing all of this to ask residents of Kankakee to please attend the upcoming city council meeting if you are available. We need actual residents to come and support us as that is who officials care to hear from. Thank you all so much!!
