Hi everyone! This is a work in progress Ive just started as practice (with black and white photo as my reference). Im not really looking for advice related to rendering right now, since blending and refining are not the areas where I have the most problems. At this stage Ive just blocked in the main values and blended just a little bit. My question is related to value and color. The reference is in black and white, and I want to paint a color image based on it. I started in black and white to see if that made things easier, since I still have dificulty seeing the value in a color. So my main questions are: For those who also work with a B&W base first, how is your process for transitioning to color? Maybe adding some layers with blending modes such as color or soft light to have a base, and then painting the rest by hand? (because I know those blending modes alone give ugly results) And regarding painting the color by hand: I use HSB sliders for my colors in Photoshop. As long as the number in B is consistent, can I change the saturation of the color and maintain the same value? For example, if I use the eyedropper on his forehead to check the value, and then I move the hue and saturation sliders without changing the brightness, will I be able to paint that area without altering the planes of the face, and all that? I hope my explanations are not too bad and sorry for any language mistakes! Thank you!!!!
