Hi, everyone, We are doing an event next month to recognize the people who are very different from the typical sewanee students (nothing wrong with being typical, but just to promote some diversity here), we would like to have several students talk about their experience (for example, i could talk about my life of sleeping in library, lab all the time. etc). But we prefer to have the people who are usually not active to talk, just because we want some new faces :) i would prefer not to talk since i have been talking a lot in the last four years). Another option is if you dont want to talk, you can just write a paragraph about how your life is different from the sewanee culture anonymously and submit it to me. At the event, we will have other students read them out. Here are some examples (mostly from my own experience :) ): - Dont like to party or get drunk; - Not used to dressing up for class and just wearing gym class after class; - Dont feel belonged to this place sometimes; - Feel this place is not liberal enough, difficult to make radical changes; - in my country, i can see people holding hand everywhere, but not here; not used to the dating culture here; Okay here are just some examples..but you can be creative, be fun, be critical, be in any way you want, at long as it is related to your own different experience at sewanee, and it is better if the difference comes from the difference between your own culture and the sewanee culture! Kay will be invited too as our speaker as she will talk about how multicultural students have changed at sewanee. Last, we highly encourage people who want to be the officers next year to participate in this event! :) Thanks! April
