Hi everyone, just checking in (belatedly) post run. So the run - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone, just checking in (belatedly) post run. So the run over the weekend was a fantastic success. The messages of support relayed to me by my amazing support crew were a constant source of inspiration, and the boundless enthusiasm of Nyssa, Steve and my parents at every trailhead was the glue that held me together, almost literally. The lads from Redtails/Rovers; Rob, Jake, Tom and Daniel Zipparoo Clarke and Adam Davis who along with Emma Craft who came out to run with me at different points on the trail just lifted me from the depths of despondent exhaustion. The finish atop Mount Sonder, complete with a logbook message from two local runners who had run the mountain on Saturday, was fittingly dark, desolate and chillingly windswept, though not cold enough to discourage the enthusiasm of my little band of companions. The recovery process over the past few days has been consuming. The worst was the first two days, when the damage to ligaments in my left ankle suffered on section 6 had me on crutches, and my feet were swelling through the days so that by bedtime they looked quite disgusting. A three hour soak on Tuesday afternoon made a dramatic difference in relieving the pain in my feet and joints, so whilst Im still struggling to sleep comfortably and cant really sit still without having to shift constantly, I can at least move around fairly freely now. All thats really left is to get my energy levels back up, as Im waking up exhausted and still tired throughout the day. But my spirits are GOOD! The media stuff the first couple of days was a bit overwhelming, however it was fantastic to be hearing the Redtails/Right Tracks program getting some play across the airwaves both here in Alice and up in Darwin. Also, was touched to see not only friends but some complete strangers come to my defence against a couple of nay-saying trolls with nothing better to do than spread their negativity online. In closing Id just like to say thankyou to everybody for all the support, encouragement, inspiration and patience over the previous few months and especially over the three days of my Larapinta Trail adventure. Its difficult to articulate in any concise way exactly how it all went down out on the trail, all the thoughts and feelings and experiences, but over the next couple of months Ill be working with Steve to see how we can put it all together. Happy running!
