Hi everyone, we wanted to show you this new trend in PDFs, which is a very low profile PFD that can look either like a slim belt, or fanny pack. The belt PFD comes in two types: either a CO2 canister type that instantly blows up a lifejacket type yellow rescue head float, or a type that you blow up with a tube by mouth. These are Coast Guard approved PFDs and as you can see, the head float might be particularly good at keeping your head above the water. Some of these actually inflate when they detect immersion, but most inflate when you tug on the string with toggle. If your PFD is inflated with the CO2 canister, you need to get a new canister to recharge your PFD as well as neatly roll up the inflatable part. These PFDs are available anywhere from Wal-mart to kayak and SUP shops. Theyre very popular especially in hot places where a jacket style PFD might cause overheating.
