Hi fellow foragers. I am looking for other peoples opinions & thoughts on fox tapeworm. Do you warn people about them, and how? It seems really hard to find solid information on the subject, even in the more official governmental pages (Im in Europe). Some say only cooked foods are safe, others say foraged goods should be safe after thorough washing. Some sites even are not clear on whether it can only be transmitted from poo, others claim pee can be dangerous as well. What surprises me even more is that NONE of these precautions are given for cultivated crops, grown in the soil. I recently passed a spinach field where a fox was visiting. I know its also a territorial thing, so the transition areas between forest areas and fields are most tricky, but I dont see the difference (fox tapeworm-wise) between a field of spinach (that are considered safe) and a field of lambs quarter or other wild greens (that are considered risky). Id love to hear your thoughts, or see some links to good, solid, info on this. Thank you!
