Hi folks! Im just getting into Facebook. I never actually had an account on the original ZIOH forum, but it had a great impact on my life indirectly, through my wife, L. Amber Wilcox-ohearn. I recently wrote a letter to someone and I gave credit to ZIOH for being the intellectual ancestor of some of my advice. Heres an excerpt from that letter: ------- A few years ago an acquaintance told me that he had advanced, inoperable astrocytoma and had 18–36 months to live. Amber and I advised him to try a keto diet intervention. We were aware of the idea that Seyfried and Zuccoli were at that time researching, that *low-calorie* was necessary in addition to very-low-carb in order to achieve anti-cancer properties. (There was that 2-by-2 mouse experiment which showed that. I forget if Seyfried was an author on that one.) We were also aware of the belief from the epilepsy world that limiting protein and controlling calories was an important component of keto diet treatment. But, we told our friend something different! We told him about those theories from the cancer and epilepsy doctors, and then we said, but, we advise you to ignore all that! Because that makes it harder to stick to. That can make it impractical. I was especially concerned about the case study from Zuccoli of the Italian woman who had remission of advanced brain cancer by going on a low-calorie, keto diet, and then after a few months she went off the diet and the cancer came roaring back and killed her within a few weeks. I didnt want that to happen to my friend. So, we advised him to not do either the Seyfried-style anti-cancer protocol nor the Kossoff-style anti-epilepsy protocol, but instead the zero-carb/all-meat/carnivore protocol (pioneered by Owsley Bear Stanley and Charles Washington of the Zeroing In On Health forum). That is, we advised him to eat nothing but fatty meat (no low-carb veggies or anything), and to eat whenever he was hungry and to continue eating until he was satiated. It worked! His brain cancer quickly receded and disappeared, and he seems to be healthy and functional today. ------- By the way, I live in Boulder, Colorado and Im looking to meet people to talk with and dine with, so say Hi. :-)
