Hi guys!! In my last post, I told you how I was having my - TopicsExpress

Hi guys!! In my last post, I told you how I was having my second ear implanted, well, it’s official now!!! My surgery date is the fifth of November – thanks to a recent cancellation! To all my lovely nurses at Gillies; I will be seeing you soon!! I can’t wait for my next 2am post-surgery party so make sure you stock up on those lemonade iceblocks One of the things I want to update you on is mapping. I had an absolutely incredible map a while ago, I could hear speech amazingly well and I was loving it – and then I got my next map and that one was, well, terrible. I couldn’t hear speech very well and I was struggling a lot. But… one of the things I found that was really good was although I was hearing a lot of background noise, I was picking up on the really small sounds, like the computer mouse clicking and scissors cutting. I could even tell the difference between bird calls – something I’ve never been able to do before. Shortly after having this map for a week or so, I then had another remap and I have found that this map is awesome! It’s really a mix of both background sounds and speech – I have been using it at school and I have found it is just great. The sounds I am hearing are incredible! Much to Mum and Dad’s surprise, I am commenting on their conversations from upstairs while they’re downstairs! I couldn’t even hear them with my HA’s, let alone understand their conversation! I had absolutely no idea kittens made so much noise when they drink and eat. I also didn’t realise frogs were so loud that you can hear them from a mile away! Lol, only like 50m, but still! They’re noisy! I have been going to school with my implant – only my implant and am really happy with it. I don’t like wearing my Hearing Aid and I just rely on my implant. I’ve found that I am less tired after school and I can hear a lot more than I have ever heard – though some sounds I am still getting used to and slowly recognising. Slowly… The lack of tiredness is really amazing because that has been a huge issue for me for quite some time. It’s so neat to come home with a bit of energy. One of the things my audiologist programmed on my implant remote is sensitivity; what it is is it changes how far away you can hear from. So, the default is 12, but if you go right up to 20, you can hear from really far away, and if you go down to one, you can only hear if someone is pretty much talking to the microphones. I’ve been playing around with it, and it makes quite a difference when I feel the need to eavesdrop Lol. So that’s my post for today DeafKid signing off….
