Hi guys. Sorry this is my first ever comment/post so I dont want to be negative. I think this group serves an excellent purpose and the admin are fantastic for the time and effort they put in. But... The complaints about the heavy handed approach to controlling who posts what and where is a common theme, even if it is a minority of the 5k members who feel that way. I think the problem arises in that if you have the group page open, you see posts/comments in a different chronological order to those who just get updates in their news feed, which is how the majority of the general public view it. Then, what happens when there is a fire locally, there is a surge of new members signing up and it is forgiveable they dont read the instruction manual for a Facebook group. I have been silently observing this situation for over a month now, looking to suggest a solution, not add to the criticism. I think if you restarted the group but as a PAGE you will find that the admin have much more control that they are looking for to ensure that the verified correct news stays at the top for everyone to see. With a page, admin can post as the page not as individuals - new members have no way of knowing that Jill is admin. Also, admin can set the page settings so only admin posts appear in the feed. So, for posts by other people they can simply reshare these posts. Also, the tweets can be set up to automatically post to the Facebook page too. You could also use a tool such as hootsuite to share the tweets from the official sources directly to facebook which I think would be great to give credential to the source. It really does solve a lot of the problems and hopefully make the admins simpler. There is only 1 small fly in the ointment and that is you cannot convert a group to a page. So in effect you have to start all over again. But if you post frequently on the existing group page to advise people that all fire/weather alerts will now be posted on the PAGE only then Im pretty sure people will like the new page quickly enough. Like I said, Ive been observing for over a month and wanted to offer a solution. There is no solution that is 100% perfect but I believe this is as close as you will get
