Hi there, my family arrived as immigrants from England in 1959 on the Strathnaver. We lived at Finsbury Hospital where I went to Pennington Infants School. We then moved to 78 King St Alberton where I attended Alberton Infants then Primary School. We lived across from John Nassaris first grocery store & can remember the greek kids going to Saturday Greek School in the hall next door. Raspberry & lemonade at the Alberton Hotel on a Saturday afternoon was a real treat. We moved to 57 Prince Street & saw the birth of Tom the Cheap at the old cinema on Buller Terrace. We attended church at St Pauls Church of England where my mum sang in the choir, Reverend Crossman was the priest, we then went to St Georges Church of England at Alberton where Rector Dent ran the show. Played netball for St Georges with Mrs Blaylock as coach, and played tennis on the same courts in the middle of Port Road. I learnt to swim in the Port River at 6am swimming lessons, we spent many happy hours at Glanville beach & remember the opening of the flash Ethelton Pool. Went to the flicks at Port Adelaide matinee sessions, did ballet at the masonic hall in Port Adelaide. I live overseas in PNG now but always manage a visit to The Port when Im home. Used to love the buffet at the Port Adelaide Football Club on a Saturday night. My maiden name was Jane Knight. Lots of very fond memories.
