High pressure this week, upset by naughty lows It was very mild yesterday, feeling balmy at times, many places up to 13C and Exeter having the top temperature of 16C (61F). High pressure is really trying to establish itself over the UK this week. It manages in the south but keeps getting interrupted over northern parts, with strong winds and more rain, (thats the naughty low pressures). This morning, there is still frontal rain and cloud over England. It is really quite murky and misty in places. This damp weather will clear away, to the south east through the morning. Much of the UK will have a bright and blustery day with sunshine and a brisk West or NW wind. Showers will still trouble the NW Highlands and Western Isles, temperatures in Scotland 5 to 8C. There may be the odd shower for the north coast of N.Ireland but fine for most with temperatures of 9C. Wales could reach 11C but will feel cool along the coasts in the wind. England will see temperatures of 10 to 13C. Overnight, the showers continue to skip across N & W Scotland. Elsewhere, it will be dry and clear down to 3C with a touch of frost, lower for parts of England. Wednesday morning starts off dry for most (more showers for western Scotland). It will be chilly, even an air frost possible in England after the clear skies, leading to sunshine. Through the morning, the cloud increases and the SW winds freshens. The winds strengthen over N.Ireland and Scotland and begin to pick up over Wales and western England. Through the afternoon the low pressure responsible swings south of Iceland and its fronts throw rain over Scotland in the afternoon and then all of the UK through the evening and night, front the cold front. Even as this band of heavier rain clears there will be more hefty showers from the NW. Thursday starts off bright with more showers, with a brisk NW wind, strong to gale force for western Scotland and into the Irish Sea. Thursday does improve as the showers disappear and there will be sunshine, but it stays cold in the wind. Overnight, the winds ease off and temperatures fall away to about 3C, so touches of frost and then Friday sees the high pressure building in again and some more settled drier and less windy weather ( away from N.Scotland). The settled weather lasts into the weekend, although another weather front may move into Scotland and N.Ireland bringing rain during Saturday. Temperatures around 10C.
