Higher Everyday Thursday, June 26, 2014 THE BIG CASTLE “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust”. (Psalm 91:2) The Prague Castle is reputed to be the biggest castle in the world, measuring 1,870 feet in length and 426 feet in width. It has been home to kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman Emperors, and president of the Czechoslovakia and Czech Republic since about the 9th century. It could house 87 White Houses (of the States) or six Buckingham Palaces (England ). Castles were basically European inventions of the 9th Century. Nobles built castles to control territories, and castles were both defensive and offensive in nature. God referred to in the Bible as a fortress. David wrote, “Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: my goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer…” (Psalm 144:1,2). David found strength from the Lord to do battle, as well as protection in God. Similarly, you may turn to your heavenly Father for help in times of trials and attacks from your enemy. Dear youth, turn to Jesus, the Fortress; He is your true source of power, provision and protection. Challenge: God is like a true fortress in which you can find shelter from the storms of life. Prayer: Rock of ages, cleft for me’, let me hide myself in Thee! Further Reading:Psalm 91:1-6
