Hill music to cross borders Kurseong singer set to attend int’l ghazal fest Kurseong, 19 August: A ghazal singer from Kurseong, Sailendra Samdarshi, is all set to participate in the International Nepali Ghazal Festival slated to be held at the Shilpi Theatre at Battisputali in Kathmandu, Nepal, on 22 and 23 August. In the festival, Mr Samdarshi plans to present a worksheet and speak on different aspects of ‘Bharatma Nepali Ghazal: Parampara ani Pravitti’ (the trend and tradition of Nepali ghazal in India). The event in Kathmandu is being organised jointly by the International Nepali Ghazal Manch and Anammanli, Nepal, to mark and observe the 149th birth anniversary of ghazal singer and youth poet Motiram Bhatta. Mr Samdarshi is a known ghazal singer and researcher in Indian-Nepali ghazal literature. It is learnt that he is the only Indian Nepali ghazal singer, who has been invited by the organising committee to participate in the festival. Apart from ghazal singing, Mr Samdarshi is also a well-known journalist from Kurseong who has worked with several Nepali dailies. Several organisations, associations and individuals, mainly related to literature and ghazals in Kurseong town, have expressed happiness at Mr Samdarshi’s selection to attend the Kathmandu festival. sns
