Everything about this bhajan is superb and whenever I am sad, I listen to it and cry and all my worries simply vanish. A bhajan sung by a Muslim, written by a Muslim and composed by a Muslim is the ultimate example that God is beyond religion. These people are real gems of India. A thousand salutes to them. The song awakens the soul. Can one imagine anyone else other than Rafi saab singing this song? Well I just cant. Music truly cuts across and is way above religious and other barriers. Baiju Bawra is a 1952 Hindi movie directed by Vijay Bhatt. It stars Bharat Bhushan and Meena Kumari. The movie is based on the legend of Baiju Bawra from the days of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Baiju is the son of a musician who also grows up to become a musician. He comes to believe that Tansen, the famed musician at the court of Akbar, is responsible for his fathers death. The movie then follows Baijus attempt to avenge his fathers death by challenging Tansen to a musical duel. Baiju goes to Guru Haridas to learn music. The guru asks him to first get rid of the hatred in his heart if he really wants to learn music because music is love and not hatred. Baiju leaves and starts to learn music on his own but continues to consider Guru Haridas as his music teacher to whom he would return one day to learn the nuances of music. After some time the teacher falls seriously ill and is unable to walk On learning this, Baiju goes to the teacher’s house and sings this bhajan, which so thrills Haridas that the master gets out of his bed and starts to walk. Baiju Bawra, being a movie about music had a no of songs based on Hindustani classical music.
