Hinduism was never a religion. The word Hindu is the persian name - TopicsExpress

Hinduism was never a religion. The word Hindu is the persian name of Indus river (Sindhu in sanskrit). The persian term was further loaned into Arabic as al-Hind referring to the land of the people who live across the river Indus, and into Greek as Indos, which ultimately was termed in English as India. So, the term just refers to the ppl who used to reside across the river Indus. Yoga and prayers were just the way of life for these people. So, all the rituals, festivals, belief systems etc. nurtured by them was tagged as Hinduism. This is the sole reason y no particular name is associated with birth of Hinduism unlike other sects. And also y there exists so many offshoots of it. It is analogous to me being called as Banker now, who was previously perceived as Engineer. All this is because of the professional way of life and nothing beyond. May be, it is the only way of life that instigates, promotes and advocates research thru dimensions beyond logic else we wouldnt have had so many scriptures or the ancient books and different ways of life. These appear to me as a repository of IEEE papers which is testimony of the ongoing research thru application of logic and deduction in todays sphere of life. Im shaken from the root of my spine to know that all our ancient scholars, scientists were either yogis, sages or seers. Can it be a mere coincidence or shud there be a positive correlation, I wonder? Modis answer in the vodeo is an apt reminder for us to first remind ourself what hinduism exactly means and then become inquisitive about secularism. Isnt it?
