Moth-Mandir O Debottor Sampatti Rokhkha O Punaruddhar Jatiya Committee staged the demonstration amidst heavy rain for about two hours and a half from 10:00am claiming that the proposed law was against the rules and customs of Hindu religion. On June 3, the cabinet approved the bill seeking enactment of a law for regulating management, development and transfer of endowed property donated to Hindu places of worship. Once the law is passed and comes into effect, the ascetics, chastity observers, worshippers and scholar would become employees of the Hindu religious establishments, speakers at the demonstration alleged. ‘The government is now at final stage to formulate and pass the Act which is against the interest of Hindu religion and rules while the Hindus across the country are still being oppressed,’ said the committee convenor Satya Ranjan Baroi. He alleged that the main target of the proposed law was to grab the Hindu religious establishments and to hinder the religious rituals. Terming the bill a ‘black law’, he threatened to launch tough agitations if the bill was not scrapped in 30 days. International Society for Krishna Consciousness former president Krishna Kirtan Das Brahmachari, Gouriya Moth general secretary Utpal Roy and Hindu Samaj Sangskar Samity president Hirendra Nath Bioswas also addressed the programme.
