His Holiness the Dalai Lama said these words a few hours ago today (March 31) at the main Buddhist Temple in Dharamsala after the public teaching about Bapa Phuntsok Wangyal, A.K.A Phunwang. The founder of Tibetan Communist Party died in Beijing on March 29, merely weeks after he called on Beijing to let His Holiness return to Tibet. Phunwang was HHs designated interpreter in his meetings with Mao Zedong in 1956. Many thanks to Tsering Choekyap la for your valuable translation. I met Bapa Phuntsok Wangyal first in 1951-52. He was a Tibetan Communist and a loyal and patriotic Tibetan. I then met him in Beijing in 1954. He cried and wept like a little child on meeting me in the presence of many Chinese leaders around. He told me he had seen me in Lhasa in 1951-52. He was atheist but he had a deep respect for Tibetan way of life. He was imprisoned in 1957 by the Chinese comrades for showing his unwavering and strong loyalty to Tibet and Tibetan culture, and was released after 18 years. During one of his visit abroad I phoned him and we at once recognised each others voice on phone and asked him what happened to Socialism now? He laughed. I thought I might meet him once, but he is no more now. He sent me a photo from Beijing and in that photo the way he held the white greeting scarf, khatak, he shows his deep respect for me. I think the old Bapa Phuntsok has embraced Buddhism. His Holiness then laughs... Marxism in its original form was a good economic theory that is concerned with equal distribution of resources and wealth. That was really a good idea. Crony capitalism is concerned with amassing of wealth without any concdrn for masses. . Communist leaders like Mao Zedong and others were revolutionary. They were very sincere in the beginning. Their only concern was to serve ordinary people and labour force. But they were corrupted by the power like an intoxicant. Lenin and Stalin were the main corruptor of Marxist principle... #EnglishTranslation by Tsering Choekyap#
