History Lesson for Today is a comment on the BBC website Live Text: Andrew Todd in Wokingham, UK emails: I find myself reminded very strongly of the incident of the RMS Lusitania during the First World War. The countries not directly involved in the war at that stage were apathetic and remained neutral - until the Lusitania was sunk by a German U-boat. Perhaps this tragedy will yield some kind of bitter progress. It can never atone for the innocent lives lost but perhaps this will shine the spotlight on what is going on. (In reference to the fighting in Ukraine and Russians involvement and possible involvement in shooting down the Malaysian Air jet.)
