History of the World: Robert S. McNamara was an American politician, top business executive and the eighth U.S. secretary of defense, serving under presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He is best known for helping lead the United States into the Vietnam War during the Kennedy Administration, an act for which he spent the remainder of his life wrestling with the moral consequences whether he was right or wrong. The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara is an 2003 American documentary film about the life and times of the former U.S. Secretary of Defense, illustrating his observations of the nature of modern warfare. The film was directed by Errol Morris and features an original score by Philip Glass. The title derives from the military concept of the fog of war depicting the difficulty of making decisions in the midst of conflict. The film was widely praised and won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary Feature. It was non-competitively screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Enjoy!
