Hiya Rainiacs, We just wanted to send a quick update out - TopicsExpress

Hiya Rainiacs, We just wanted to send a quick update out because we havent done one in a little while! Rain has now been on the outside for 27 weeks and 3 days (6 months and 11 days). Her adjusted age is is 12 weeks. And she has been home with us for 6 weeks! She is currently about 21 inches and weighing in at 9 pounds and 6 ounces. Things have been going pretty well. On top of all the usual stresses and madness that go along with having a newborn baby, Rain keeps us pretty busy with lots of follow up doctors appointments and check ups. The good news is the doctors seem to be pretty pleased with her progress so far. Our pediatrician is happy with Rans general health and attitude. She is an active and happy baby. She still isnt really on the charts in regards to her size and weight, but she is slowly growing and putting on weight. So the doctor seems pleased with that. We had a visit form an occupational therapist earlier this week, and she also seemed pleased with rains progress. We dont have our official score but she said that Rain didnt have any red flags. And she also noted that rain had excellent awareness and neck control. So she has that going for her. Social workers and therapists will check in with us periodically to see if she needs any early intervention. Its one of the perks of having a preemie I guess. We saw the lung doctor about a week ago. He liked the way her lungs looked and sounded and went as far as to reduce her oxygen flow and ween her off some of her meds. But, the next day, Rain started having some problems with reflux, so we had to start the meds back up and increase her oxygen flow again. The reflux isnt really connected to her lung issues, but they figured it would be nice if she was only dealing with one issue at a time. We see him again this coming Friday and he will more than likely decrease her flow and meds again. If everything goes well, she will be off of oxygen by August? The best doctors visit we had was with the eye doctor. Rains eyes have responded very well to the surgery and injection she had while in the NICU. She doesnt have to go back to that doctor for three months now! Yay! On the home front, things are starting to settle in a bit. Thankfully, Rain sleeps through much of the night. We actually have to wake her up to feed her. Once at 11:30PM and once at 3:15AM. Hopefully she will start to eat more during her daytime feeds and we will be able to eliminate the night feeds soon! Its obviously, been quite a transition having her at home. And sometimes it can be pretty stressful. But man. It is sooooo much better than being in the NICU. We go for walks, and sit on the porch and eat outside. It may not sound like much, but it makes a huge difference. Thanks again to everyone for all of your continued support and your amazingly thoughtful gifts. Someday we hope to get official and proper thank you cards out to everyone. But we have a bit going on right now. *cough cough sick baby* We will keep the updates coming every once in a while to keep folks informed! Team Struski
