Hmm let us take a bold x-ray of Sierra Leone democracy from 1992 when the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) came to power to date. Ironically NPRC was a military administration but did establish a lot of democratic institutions, values and best practices if all were fully being implemented by the elected administrations could have saved this sovereign Nation State called Sierra Leone. Though at war, through the selfless and dedicated services of four great sons of the soul, Dr John Karimu, Dr Samura Kamara, Mr Steve Swaray and Mr Edmond Koroma, the nations finances was relatively on sound footing. At the time of handing over to a democratically elected administration of late President Kabbah , the exchange rate was One Million Leones to One Thousand US Dollars in 1996. Today, with all the on going mining activity of the nations precious mineral resources and with a relative peace and security , the exchange rate is also Four Millions Five Hundred Thousand Leones to One Thousand US Dollars. The unemployment situation for our youths is unimaginable . I felt so sorry when I was confronted by good numbers of our youths to sign papers for them to seek for jobs in those Middle East countries. Not happy about same but sincerely dont know what to say in order to discourage them from going to that direction. From look at things , the President might have very good intentions for the State and the people but surely require the cooperation and supports of everybody, his team , the law makers , the judiciary and other members of the State. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the only country we have. Lets put aside our political beliefs, regional , religious and ethnic differences and support the Chief Executive with all sincerity to jointly implement his intended policies for the peace , security and the general progress of our motherland at least for the coming generation of Sierra Leoneans.
