Ho, ho, ho, (maybe as in cantonese - very, yery well..!) SANTA - TopicsExpress

Ho, ho, ho, (maybe as in cantonese - very, yery well..!) SANTA CAME EARLY...! A 65 year old gentleman, came and visited me at the school a couple of times this week. Asked me questions, not so much about wing chun but more about me and my involvement with wing chun. He reminded me that he and his sifu had visited my school many, many years ago when I was establishing myself. He again told me that he was 65 years (in fantastic shape) and didnt practice wing chun like he used to. His dummy was just sitting in storage He said he wanted to sell his dummy to someone who would appreciate and take good care of it. but then he told me that it was hand made by a highly skilled craftsman. I was very respectful to him and his kind offer. He said the arms were curved inside the dummy so they could be completely parallel. Yet I thought to myself, oh yeah, here;s another fatal attempt at making a muk jong..? So, he also said he had a pair of knives and a sau bau that he would just give me. Again, I thinking to myself, cool, but probably another pair of those 5 pound flat steel butterfly knives So I visited his home yesterday to check out this so called highlly crafted wooden dummy. I was taught by my mother to act not too impressed to see if I could get a lower price. I really thought this was almost going to be another typical low grade homemade jong. As soon as I walked in the door....... BAM I couldnt believe it. There it was just sitting upright on the floor. It was completely awesome...! This dummy was 30 years old and it was very solid and articulately made. This was better than my 2 dummys at my school, (just like he told me.!) He said, oh hold on let me gget you something I followed him up stairs and he showed my pictures of his sifu and him when he was younger. then he handed these knives to me. He just gave them to me.?!/!? They are so cool. Theyre are a Leung Ting stlye Bart Chum Do. For real..! So cool, for I never had a pair like those. I always wanted a pair of the shape and style. Needless to say, Im picking up the dummy today,........ My mother also told me, Never judge a book by its cover.. - russ cichon
