Holly had her big switch on today. She really enjoyed being able to hear again. In the video she isnt able to hear any external noises, ie us talking, but she can hear the beeps that are being sent through her cochlear implant. The beeps are set at different frequencies and volumes (although they all sound loud to us), and when Holly responds the scientist maps her implant so that she can hear at a comfortable volume and with clarity. This is adjusted at every tuning appointment to improve Hollys map. Holly was delighted today when she could hear again and gave a little snigger every time she heard a beep . Her next tuning appointment is next Friday. It is 4 weeks tomorrow since Hollys operation and I can honestly say that it has been the best 4 weeks in the last 2-3 years. She has been practically seizure free except for the odd couple of days, and seizures in her sleep. She has been very happy in herself, and been sleeping up to 12 hours a night. This, of course, has made the rest of us very happy. Craig and I have had more of a social life in the past month than we have in the past year!! We have been pretty stress-free and relaxed. Its been bliss . However, we think the honeymoon period is slowly coming to an end. The seizures have started returning slowly. Holly missed the school bus yesterday after having 2 major seizures before 8am and was wiped out, lying on the floor. And this morning she had another big seizure. However, she did recover well within half an hour to have good days. She is also slowly taking longer to fall asleep again. We knew it had to end sometime but we just hope that we manage to squeeze a little longer out of the good spell. We hope to get our new car next week. Its currently having the adaptations done down in Wolverhampton. It will make such a difference to us (and our backs, lol!).
