Holy Cow! It has been months since I added any flicks for this little group....but never fear, Im alive and kicking and so is my interest in giving you good (or at least decent) flicks. The last movie I mentioned was the quirky chase movie featuring Jeff Goldblum as an insomniac engineer tangled up in a jewel smuggling caper with the femme fatale Michelle Pfeiffer. If I hadnt already used Stardust, I could easily go from Into the Night to Stardust since Michelle Pfeiffer stars in both....so I have to connect to the next flick some other way. I choose Bruce McGill....who performs as a supporting actor in the pretty funny Jack Black romantic comedy / fantasy, Shallow Hal! This one is thoroughly irreverent, but since its Jack Black in a comedy, what do you expect? In this flick, Jack plays Hal, a dude only interested in the physical appearance of his potential gal-pals. Through a quirk of comedic fate, he ends up getting hypnotized by none other than Tony Robbins to see only the true nature of people...whereupon he falls madly in love with Gwyneth Paltrow who is a bigger girl (done with some pretty inventive cinematic prostheses), but in his eyes and in his mind, she is the perfect Gwyneth Paltrow physique - see the picture below. What follows are a bunch of sight gags played to pretty good effect along with a typical boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy reassesses how boneheaded he was kind of story. I dont care what people say about Paltrow, she was cute and funny in this role. If you want a pretty easy comedy that features Jack Black at his manic best, this is a pretty good one IMO. imdb/title/tt0256380/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_62
