Holy God, you promise us a place in your kingdom that cannot be shaken, and yet you are determines to shake loose from our hearts, from our lives and from our world all that is fleeting and impermanent, by the powerful voice and life of Jesus. We confess, O God, that we cling to that which is familiar, and grasp wildly at that which cannot last. We sometimes find freedom more fearful than fear itself;trust more daunting panic. Forgive us the shortsightedness that makes idols of limited human agendas and the fragile security they build. forgive us the subtle ferocity with which we defend the status quo and our stubborn resistance to your will. Help us to release our grip on things that serve neither us, nor you. Direct our urgency and efforts, not towards keeping things as they are, but towards living fully. Help us to ground our priorities in the true convictions of our hearts, and in your eternal vision for all humankind, so that your kingdom may be made manifest here on earth and in our own hearts.
