Home. Its been nearly two and a half years since I joined Cincinnati Fire Protection District. Ive seen and learned a lot, made new friends and been thrust into the lives of others who are experiencing their worst tragedies. Every time I drove to a call or to training I would pass a vacant lot on the corner of 29 and Chester L. A single panel sign stood by the road- Future Home of Cincinnati Fire Protection District. Its been a long road for a lot of people who love Cincinnati and wanted to grow it into something special. Tonight I joined my brothers and sisters- Chief Clifton, Assistant Chief Oberle, Captain Hogue, Captain Isaac, firefighters Kathie, Chitwood, Anthony, Dustin, Higgs, Carissa, and auxiliary members Angela and Heather. Altogether we spent seven hours putting together gear racks, loading trailers, tearing apart shelves and almost killing ourselves with electrical wires. It was a cool moment when we unloaded the last trailer, pulled in all the trucks and assembled in front of our new home. My role in this place may be small, but I could not be prouder to have a part in it.
