Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi previously said he was looking to create a special religious police unit to battle the spread of deviant teachings. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar clarified, that there wont be a formation of a special Syariah police unit, instead police personnel will assist Islamic religious departments with investigation and enforcement if needed.
