On the 3rd of April, 2012, he also performed with Katy Perry, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachhan, Priyanka Chopra and KareenaKapoor at the opening ceremony of the 5th edition of the Indian Premiere League. In 2007 in the month of August, a music video for the Tamil song ‘KalluriVaanil’ with phonetic translations was uploaded on YouTube by Mike Sutton. The particular name ‘Benny Lava’ originates from Sutton’s dubbing of the lead line which is ‘Kallurivaanilkaayndhanilaavo?’ dubbed as ‘My loony bun is fine, Benny Lava!’. Sooner this video gained a lot of Internet playback time and became a hit on YouTube and soon Prabhu Deva was entitled to this particular name of Benny Lava.Philippine Daily Inquirer described this video as a -”Catchy melody, a battalion of back-up dancers, colorful costumes, impressive vocal gymnastics, jaw-dropping choreography this music video has it all. And if those arent enough, the person who uploaded this vid also provided subtitles so you can sing along. They arent the real lyrics though, but just what they sound in English, resulting in a lot of nonsense.” Awards: 1) In the year 2005, Prabhu Deva won the Filmfare Award, the Star Screen Award and the National Film Award for Best Choreography, for the film ‘Pukar’ (2000), in which he choreographed all the dance sequences. 2) He was awarded the Mathrubhumi Award and the Vijay Award in 2007 for being the Best Director for the Tamil movie ‘Pokkiri’. 3) Prabhu Deva has also received a life membership at the International Film and Television Research Centre of the Asian Academy of Film & Television. 4) He won the National Film Award two times for Best Choreography for the film, ‘MinsaaraKanavu’ (1997) and ‘Lakshya’ (2004). Biography: Prabhu Deva, one of India’s greatest choreographer and dancer was born in the small city of Mysore in Karnataka and he had spent his childhood days at Alwarpet located in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. He gained inspiration from his father, MugurSundar(known popularly as Sundaram Master), who used to choreograph for numerous South Indian films. From a very tender age, Prabhu Deva took dancing as his ultimate passion and he went on to learn Bharatanatyam and various other Indian classical dances. UdipiLakshminarayanan and Dharmaraj were his teachers. Apart from the above, he also learnt Western dance styles. He has revolutionized various aspects of choreography and dance in Indian cinema today.Nagendra Prasad and RajuSundaram, his brothers, are well established choreographers in Southern India. In 1989, ‘VetriVizha’ was the first movie in which he choreographed the dance sequences. He had previously appeared in the Tamil movie, ‘Agni Natchathiram’ as a background dancer. Since then, Prabhu Deva had choreographed in more than 100 films. Later on he turned to acting as well. In 1994, ‘Indhu’ was the first movie in which he appeared as an actor.Prabhu Deva has quite a large fan from almost all parts of India, especially in the Kannada, Telegu and Tamil movie industries. He along with his brothers appeared in the 2002 K. Subhash directed film named ‘123’. He has his own dance academy based in Singapore, where he is the director and chairman. This academy teaches kids in Singapore all forms of dance. Prabhu Deva has also decided to establish a similar dance academy at Bengaluru, India and he plans to name it ‘Navarasa’. In 2012, Prabhu Deva will be releasing his first ever Tamil video album titled ‘It is boring’. Besides this, he himself plays a lead character in the first ever 3D Indian dance film titled ‘ABCD’ (Any Body Can Dance). Lauren Gottlieb, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance’participant will also be appearing in this film. In the year 2008, while the shooting of the film ‘Villu’ was going on, various sources claimed that Prabhu Deva was into a relationship with the actress Nayantara. Several reports also suggested that in June in the year 2009, both of them had a secret marriage. Nayantara had also tattooed Prabhu Deva’s name on her wrist. She also started appearing in public with him and at the same time she neither did accept nor deny the relationship between her and Prabhu Deva. Later on in the year 2010 in September, Prabhu Deva confessed that he loved Nayantara and he further went on to state that he would be marrying her sooner. These statements sooner or later gained lots of media attention and later developed into a big controversy as Prabhu Deva was no divorced from Ramlath, his wife.Ramlath did not agree for a divorce and she went to the family court to file a petitionseeking ways how to prevent Prabhu Deva and Nayantara from getting married, attending various programmes together and getting awards as wife and husband at various award ceremonies. This petition also included a request which would reunite Ramlath and Prabhu Deva. Ramlath had admonished to go without eating for some period of time had her husband married Nayantara. Several women organisations from various parts of India protested against Nayantara for her actions which brought disrepute to the Tamil culture.
