Homelessness - What Ive observed in the OC: 1. Laguna Beach has a large homeless population. Mainly women! At the beaches you can find the women washing their clothes in the bathroom or hanging out in the public library or near the bus terminal. 2. Was in Santa Ana today. It looked like skid row near the public library. 3. In Buena Park and Anaheim Ive seen an even number of both men and women. Broke my heart to see people digging in the trash for food. Bought a man a meal when I saw him counting his change to buy some food. He was so grateful he only asked for the least expensive item on the menu. I had to convince him to order something heartier. He practical inhaled his food! I sat with him and ate my salad while he mainly talked. He thanked me profusely afterwards. 4. In Cypress, Ive seen homeless people pushing their cart full of belongings but theyre usually in transit. I dont know if theyre just passing through. This is a great concern of mine. I realize mental health issues are a large factor, as is addiction and some people even decide to become homeless, but many of the homeless are veterans, woman and children (over 30,000 in LA county alone!), or just a victim of circumstance. We are such a wealthy nation and its sad to see this in one of the wealthiest counties in the United States. I cant even imagine what the homeless are experiencing in those states that are experiencing freezing temperatures right now. I cant begin to even describe what Ive seen when Im in Oceanside! Homeless Marines! Just my observation.
