Homestead Elementary School is the “hub” of the Tygart Valley Homestead communities. The school educates students from the communities of Dailey, East Dailey, and Valley Bend. The school serves 145 students in grades PreK-5. Homestead is a feeder school for Tygarts Valley Middle School/High School. Homestead School serves as an auxiliary gym for Tygarts Valley Middle School/High School. The school is home of Upper Valley Soccer and Pop Warner Football. The school mascot is the mighty Polar Bear. The Polar Bear Basketball Team plays league ball from December to March. Team members consist of boys and girls in grades 4-5. Homestead’s school colors are royal blue and white. Homestead Elementary School sits on a beautiful seventeen acre campus located on routes 219 and 250. This portion of road is also known at the “Stanton-Parkersburg Turnpike.” Homestead Elementary School is the last of 99 schools that is still in operation that was built during the New Deal Era under the leadership of Eleanor Roosevelt and President Roosevelt and his administration. The school will celebrate the 75th Homecoming Anniversary on June 26, 27, and 28th, 2015. Homestead School is on the National Register of Historic Places due to its significance during the New Deal Era. A historical marker stands at the entrance of the school. The mission of Homestead Elementary School, a small rural school rich in tradition and community spirit, is to promote in our students the desire to learn and develop the skills necessary for a productive life in the 21st century. We believe in a rigorous academic curriculum focused on the West Virginia Next Generation Content Standards and Objectives. We believe that teaching and learning are the responsibility of all stakeholders. We believe in developing leaders of tomorrow through cooperative community support and involvement.
