Homily of the Day: Friday Reading 11 JN 5:5-13 Beloved: Who indeed is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is the one who came through water and Blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but by water and Blood. The Spirit is the one who testifies, and the Spirit is truth. So there are three who testify, the Spirit, the water, and the Blood, and the three are of one accord. If we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is surely greater. Now the testimony of God is this, that he has testified on behalf of his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar by not believing the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you so that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God. Homily: Good morning. In our Church, often times before or after mass, we pray a chaplet called the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. This chaplet was given by our Lord to the humble and very spiritual Sister Faustina, in the mid 1930s. It was given to her by Him, because for a very long time in the Churchs history, the majority of the our congregants forgot a lot about Gods mercy towards sinners. The primary intent of Jesus, giving her and eventually, the rest of the Church this chaplet, was so that He could revitalize the Church and restore the fullness of his grace and mercy to even the most calloused of sinners. Through it Jesus promised that even the most calloused of sinners should he or she pray this chaplet once, would receive graces unimaginable. He promised us also that if we prayed this series of prayers in the presence of any dying person, believer or non-believer, then He would stand between His Father as king of mercy and not the just judge. This chaplet is indeed powerful, it is indeed sanctifying, it is indeed grace restoring, and I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to receive in the fullest way, the graces of God to live life on this earth and to prepare for the coming life in the next. What does this have to do with todays reading? In todays reading I see three things that we address in the chaplet. We address trust, we address the water and we address the blood that gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us. In fact towards the conclusion of the chaplet we say, Oh blood and water which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus, as a fountain of mercy for us I trust in you, O blood and water wish gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as fountain for us, I trust in you, O blood and water which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus, as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust in you. You see, we trust in the redeeming merits of Christ on the cross, we trust that the water which gushed forth from his side represents the cleansing waters of Holy Baptism in which we were immersed in. Our original sin was washed clean. We trust and the body which was pierced and the blood which protruded forth also His side are the things that He still uses to redeem us. We believe and trust in Jesus and in Him we find our eternal life. As a matter of fact, just before the concluding prayer we say with our hearts and not just with our heads, Jesus I trust in you, three times. I emphasize this point because there are a lot of people out there who say that we dont believe. Our Lord is the victor over the world, and with His divine presence living within us through these two official sacraments of baptism and the Holy Eucharist, and the one unofficial, yet equally important sacrament of believing, we are indeed tied to the One who tied His life to us, when we said Jesus I trust in you. May the Lord give you the grace to continually trust in Him and may He grant you the grace to live life to the fullest. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
