Hon. Bundu Concludes Ebola Sensitisation Meetings In Constituency 052 By Hassan Bruz Northern Bureau Chief Hon. Ibrahim Rashid Bundu is the Member of Parliament for Constituency 052 and doubles as the Port Loko District Chairman of the All Peoples Congress [APC] Party. He is now better known as the Leader of Government Business in Parliament. This is perhaps why he pays far more frequent visits to the District than any other Member of Parliament in this part of the Country. He had just returned to resume his Parliamentary duties after an assessment of the Party’s District Office at the Bai Burreh Memorial Hall with a view to mobilise resources for its refurbishment , when the Ebola outbreak occurs in the Country. The Leader of Government Business has since re –deployed himself to captain the sensitisation tour of the Team of Parliamentarians in the District which took them to all the ten constituencies. This was in compliance to the clarion call of President Ernest Bai Koroma for all to join hands in the fight against the spread of the Ebola virus. It was after all of these trips that he again went for a special message on Ebola to his Constituents. As in the case of his previous tour of the District, the purpose of the visit of the Honourable Member of Parliament was to impress on the minds of Natives about the seriousness of the Ebola virus. He described it as a real killer disease which has the potential to ravage a village, town, and even the entire Nation if appropriate and collective measures are not adopted. At Gbinty, Sandugu and Safronkoh where the Campaign meetings were separately conducted, Hon. Bundu gave a brief history of how the disease originated from neighbouring Guinea through a female herbalist that was resident in Kailahun. He said the issue was neglected and even politicised as a result of which it has now spread to almost every part of the country. The Member of Parliament said the Virus is so scaring that the development agenda of the Country has been put on an indefinite hold, citing the series of setbacks the Nation is reduced to. He cited the exodus of Investors from the Country, the suspension of most Airlines, the ban on public gatherings, and the cancellation of this year’s trip to the Holy Land of Mecca for Pilgrimage by Muslims as some of the gaps so far created by this deadly virus. Hon. Bundu said President Ernest Koroma has attached so much importance to it that he has declared a State of Public Emergency and even went further to divert the Constituency Development Funds to the fight against Ebola. He informed them about the World Health Organisation which has made an estimation of over Twenty Thousand People to be likely infected with the virus in the near future. He also spoke of the recently established Bye Laws which are geared towards minimising the spread of the virus and the corresponding penalties for defaulters. Hon. Bundu disclosed Government’s plans to establish a Treatment Centre at Gbom Samba and urged for the cooperation of all and sundry so that the spread could be stopped and controlled before any additional destruction on lives. It might interest you to know that Constituency 052 is comprised of Dibia, Safronkoh and Sanda Magbolonton Chiefdoms. And as earlier outlined by Paramount Chief Alhajie Sheik Briama Sanda Sorie 11 of,Sanda Magbolonton ,his is the most deprived Chiefdom in the Northern District of Port Loko. He said it would therefore be tantamount to a suicide, if they should idly sit by and allow the virus to penetrate into their Locality. He said this was why they had long engaged themselves in the fight even before the Member of Parliament could come to educate them on the dos and don’ts of Ebola. He however used the opportunity to inform Hon. Bundu about the attitude of the People of Mabantha Section who do not seem to recognise his authority. He said they are so defiant that the entire Section has refused to even attend the Ebola Meeting in the Chiefdom. The Paramount Chief concluded with a particular appeal to all those who contested with him in the Paramount Chieftaincy Elections ,to put aside politics and join hands in the fight against Ebola as well as the general development of the Chiefdom. Statements of solidarity were also made by the Chairman of the Constituency Taskforce on Ebola-Alimamy O Bangura, the All Peoples Congress Party Chairlady –Kadiatu Kamara and the Community Health Officer Mr. Conteh. The ceremony in each of the three Chiefdoms’ Headquarter Towns was climaxed with the presentation of a consignment of sanitizers and money to all Local Authorities ranging from Village Headmen to Town and Section Chiefs.
