Horse of The Year 2013—Bigman In Town also starred as he destroyed the opposition in the Grade Two—NGC Diamond Stakes over 1,350 metres. The colt quickened off a fast pace which was set by Coroneo and Slewjero before bursting past Signal Alert at the far turn, and turned the race into a one horse race. Not only did Bigman in Town win by 10 1/4 lengths, he also lowered the course record with the time of 1:18.1. The Derek Chin owned Film Director held the record of 1:18.2 on April 21, 2007. Signal Alert was second and Holy Man, third. Jockey Abrego said: “He had company for 400 metres before I asked him to go and that was it. He is a champion.” Owner Baskaran Bassawh commented: “He is the best horse in training in this country, I said that before and I will say it again. Today you again saw how good he is at sprinting and last time out you saw what he could do going around two turns. He is indeed a great horse.” Gary Subratie said: “This is perhaps the best horse that I have ever trained. Once he came into the straight like he did, I know it would be a romp. He ran superbly. The next race could be the Champion Stakes.” Click link below to view race replay.
