Hot Rize connected some dots along with other groups. We came up at a time when the progressive bluegrass of bands like New Grass Revival, David Grisman, and guys standing around in t-shirts playing and shaking their hair around had been the thing. There was a pendulum swing back to, hey, lets play the traditional grooves, lets dress like the old bands did. Johnson Mountain Boys came along around the same time, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver were a little bit like that when they started so there was kind of a move back towards the tradition.
