Hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs all reported an increase in visitor numbers during the summer. Good weather and The Gathering are also cited as having had a positive impact on performance this year, according to Failte Irelands latest Tourism Barometer. Business sentiment in the tourism industry is at its highest level since the boom years and there has been strong business from the north American market in particular, Failte Ireland spokesperson Louise Tolerton said. While all areas have performed well, the hotel sector has benefitted most, Ms Tolerton added. It (the barometer) gives clear evidence that The Gathering as well as recent Government initiatives have provided the jump start that we hoped they would, Ms Tolerton said. Many sectors from the industry point to the good weather from the summer as well as The Gathering as having a positive impact on their performance this year. We note that the bounce (from The Gathering) has been enjoyed across the country, with all regions performing well and hotels benefiting the most.
