Photo By: Bhaskar Paul Welcome to the coverage of Day 3 of the 2nd Test match between India and West Indies from the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. SCORECARD | DAY 2 | DAY 1 | SALAAM SACHIN West Indies were bowled out for 187 runs in the second innings against a superb bowling performance by India. A comprehensive win for India in the end as expected. Tendulkar took his hat off to acknowledge the crowds cheer before going off. West Indies were already 3 down at the end of Day 2. They were not expected to survive long today and that is exactly what happened. It wasnt all that a bad pitch to bat on, but some poor shot selection by Samuels, Deonarine early on opened the floodgates. Ojha and Ashwin ran through the West Indies lower-order at will. Chanderpaul and Ramdin fighted for a while but the former misread a Ashwin slider which hurt the visitors badly. Ramdin went on to make a fine fifty, but lack of support at the other end meant it was a mere formality for India to wrap-up the game. FINAL WORDS OF SACHIN TENDULKAR on cricket field: All my friends, settle down let me talk, Ill get more and more emotional. The crowd goes berserk out there. My life between 22 yards in the 24 years, its hard to believe that its coming to an end. I would like to thank all the people who have helped me in my life to get here. I have a list in my hand. Please forgive me if I miss out on a few names. First, my father, he passed away in 1999. He was key to my career. He gave me freedom, chase your dreams and dont find shortcuts. He also told me to be a nice human being. My mother, I dont how she dealt with such a naughty like guy me. She took care of me to be healthy. She started praying for me even before I started my career and I think those prayers gave my strength. In my school days, I used to stay with my uncle and aunt as my school was far away. They treated me like their son. My eldest brother, he used to tell me, I know youd do everything right and I have the confidence in you. WATCH SO SORRY: THANK YOU SACHIN! My sister, she gave my the first bat for me. A Kashmir Willow bat. She continues to fast when I bat. Ajit, I dont what do I talk about him. It all started from the age of 11, he took to Achrekar sir my coach. And my life changed. Even last night, he called me and we were discussing my dismissal. Various things we agreed upon, my technique. I have had a lot of chat with him. If I had not done that, I would have been a lesser cricketer. The most important one in 1991, I met my wife Anjali. I know she was a doctor. When we decided to make it a family, she said, you continue with your cricket and Ill take care of the family. Without that I think I couldnt have played so much cricket. Thank you for all that youve done and it is the best partnership Ive had in my life. Then Sara and Arjun are two precious diamonds in my life My daughter is 16 and son is 14, time has flown by. I wasnt able to be with them for the birthdays, annual days and stuff. Thanks for understanding all that, both of you have been so special to me. Ive not spent enough time with you but I promise you the rest is for you. My in-laws have been supporting. I discuss various things with them, we have a strong family and thank you for allowing me to marry Anjali. There have been a lot of friends who have supported me. Leaving their work and coming to bowl to me when I called them. I thought my career was over when I was injured, by my friends called even at 3 am and made me believe that it was not over. My career started at 11. My brother took me to Achrekar sir and that is the best to have happened to me. Sir would be taking me on his scooter all over Mumbai to ensure that I get enough match practice. On a lighter note, hes never said well played to me so that I dont get complacent. My cricket started right here at this ground. The dream was obviously to play for India. BCCI was fantastic, they believed me at the age of 16 and selected me. Thanks for the support and the freedom, without that this couldnt have happened. I have played with many senior cricketers, thanks to everyone for helping me out. I see Rahul, Laxman, Sourav and my teammates, you guys are like my family. It is going to be difficult without that dressing room, sharing those special moments. When Dhoni gave me the 200th Test cap, I just said, we are all proud to be here as a team and I believe that you guys will take care of this country in the right spirit to the best of our abilities. I believe in you and all the best for your future. Thanks to all the doctors, physios, without your special efforts, I couldnt have been fit. I dont know how you all kept me in good shape. My dear friend, late Mark Mascarenhas, my first manager. Without him I couldnt have achieved all this. All those sponsorship deals etc. thanks for your support. I miss you. My manager Vinod Naidu, hes more like my family. Hes given me so much time leaving his family to work with him. In the school days when I played well, the media backed me a lot. Youve been doing that till now. Thank you to all of you, all those photographers. Those moments will remain with me for the career. I want to thank all the people where who have flown in from across the world and supporting me whether I scored a zero or a 100. Ive met a lot of people who do all sorts of things for me, thank you for all that youve done. Especially, Sachin... Sachin.. that will be ringing in my ears till I am breathing. Thank you very much. I am sorry if I have missed out on anything. GOODBYE! This is the biggest match in the cricketing histroy and thank you Sachin for all that youve done. We wont see this again, Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Were honoured to play against Sachin Tendulkar in his historical and final Test match, West Indies skipper Darren Sammy said. Sachin Tendulkar gets a Special Award by the Sri Lankan government. Pragyan Ojha has been declared the Man of the Match while Rohit Sharma gets the Man of the Series award. All those MEMORIES as young lad in the 90s when we used to practice those SHADOW Sachin shots, crouch and adjust the abdomen guard like he does are going through my mind. Those MOMENTS when the TV would be off as soon as he gets out. That UPPER-CUT off Shoaib Akthar in the 2003 WC, that pull off Caddick, that STRAIGHT-DRIVE off Brett Lee, that FLICK OF THE WRIST from outside off and lots more. How can one FORGET those? EXQUISITE DRIVE from Chanderpaul!! SACHIN TENDULKAR TRIVIA: He scored 169 vs South Africa at Cape Town in January 1997 but couldnt save the match for India. This Test match will FOREVER BE REMEMBERED for the SENSATIONAL STAND of 222 between Sachin and Azhar which stood out for the BREATHTAKING display of STROKE-MAKING against a very HIGH QUALITY attack of Donald, Pollock, Klusener and McMillan on a fast Cape Town wicket. The duo came together when India were on the ropes at 58/5 and THRILLED the crowd with an astounding array of strokes that left the Proteas attack DAZED. After Azhar was out, Tendulkar ensured India AVOIDED the follow-on and when he was finally out for 169 to an OUT-OF-THE-WORLD catch by Adam Bacher at deep midwicket, the crowd were on their feet LAUDING the sheer genius that they had witnessed earlier in the afternoon. Day 2: West Indies scored 43 runs at the loss of three wickets while trailing by 270 runs against India by the end of Day 2 at the Wankhede stadium. It was another day of DOMINATION for Team India. It started off with all eyes GLUED on Sachin Tendulkar who played WONDERFULLY before being DISMISSED against the run of play, much to the AGONY of the crowd that was very VOCAL. Cheteshwar Pujara carried on at the other end and rode his LUCK when the third umpire ruled a CATCH APPEAL in his favour when he was batting on 76. He went on to register his 5th TEST HUNDRED alongside Virat Kohli who made a FINE FIFTY. Rohit Sharma then carried the innings on his shoulders and shared a 80-run 10th wicket stand with Mohammad Shami while bringing up his 2nd CONSECUTIVE TEST TON. He also became only the 2nd INDIAN to score BACK-TO-BACK Test HUNDREDS in the first two innings of a Test career. India had already SIZED UP a lead over 300 by then. The West Indies came out and looked to defend initially. But Kieran Powell played a HAPLESS SHOT to throw his wicket away to open the door for the Indian spinners. Ojha removed NIGHTWATCHMAN Tino Best before Ashwin found the outside edge of Darren Bravo in the final over the day. Looks like this match is going to END within 3 days. The batsmen were ALL AT SEA as the ball was turning big and bouncing a lot off the ROUGH. Day 1: Team India scored 157 runs at the loss of two wickets after 34 overs against West Indies by the end of the first day of the 2nd Test at the Wankhede stadium. The hosts clearly DOMINATED the first day of play with a SCINTILLATING bowling performance inspired by Pragyan Ojhas FIVE-WICKET HAUL. West Indies were looking GOOD with Kieran Powell and Darren Bravo at crease. But, LOST their way after lunch as the wickets RAINED DOWN at the Wankhede stadium. Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay began a SOLID INNINGS for the hosts in what looked to be a SPECTACULAR PLATFORM for their team. Windies turned to their SAVIOUR Shane Shillingford who didnt DISAPPOINT his skipper. The lanky spinner scalped Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay in one over to bring his side BACK INTO THE GAME. The BIGGEST MOMENT of the day was undoubtedly the ARRIVAL of Sachin Tendulkar at the crease. After missing out in the 1st Test, Tendulkar looked in SUBLIME touch and played his natural game with a lot of CONFIDENCE alongside his partner Cheteshwar Pujara. A total of 339 runs were scored alongside 12 wickets on the first day of a Test match? Youve got be kidding me. TOSS: India won the toss and elected to field first against West Indies.
