Hours after six people died in an apparent bus suicide bombing, pictures of a passport - showing the female suspect wearing a headscarf or hijab - were aired on Russian TV. But they were soon called into question as the first page of the suspect’s passport had been published via a National Anti-Terrorism Committee Twitter account and the public soon picked up on the fact that, under Russian law, it is forbidden to be photographed for official documents in a hijab! Following this, the actual passport picture was released by authorities – this time without the ‘glued on’ hijab!! Russian brutality towards its Muslim community is well known; banning of the Quran, demolishment of mosques, arrest and killing of Muslim activists and Imams are crimes that are well known. And now circulating a fake picture to satisfy the official anti-Muslim narrative is yet another malicious tactic employed by the state to demonise innocent Muslims!
