House Conservatives Revolt . . . 60%: Republicans Reject Boehner . . . Outcry: Constitution Under Assault frontpagemag/2015/matthew-vadum/house-conservatives-revolt-1/ At Frontpagemag: As America slides deeper into dysfunction, conservatives don’t want leadership in Congress that politely accepts whatever actions President Obama dictates. They want Republicans to take the fight to the Left, something conflict-averse Boehner has shown time and time again he is not willing to do. The Grand Old Party’s conservative base is explosively angry at what it perceives as Boehner’s repeated betrayals throughout his term as Speaker of House. In their view, Boehner consistently sold out conservatives for political expediency. Boehner, they say, refused to fight debt ceiling increases, funded Obamacare, and did little to reduce government spending. . . . -- Matthew Vadum Comment: I dont think the GOP establishment has any intention of governing according to the Constitution, and they certainly give little evidence of taking the Declaration framework with any seriousness. Either within or without the current political establishment, voices must be raised that respect the norms of human freedom and dignity, and that then apply those norms to governance. The record of Boehner & Co. is that of capitulation. But in a sense, it is far worse. For rather than capitulation, we have cooperation with lawless rule instead of good government. Boehner and others like him may be fine gentlemen on a personal level. But their philosophy of governance and their practice of governing is a train wreck. May people of good will step up and fill the breach, defend the walls of freedom. In politics, yes. But also across every sphere of society. Salt and light, freedom and dignity, everywhere.
