How Can I Take Up Hobbies When I Travel So Much? Frequent travel is difficult in many ways, not the least of which is filling up your after-work hours. Its hard to start new hobbies or get involved in group activities when youre not going to be around long term. If youve got ideas, jump in and help out a fellow reader! Mr. Bored asks: I have an amazing 8-5 job that takes me around the country (New Zealand). But I am tired of staying in motels and cant seem to find anything to do after work. Currently, I go home, work out, and cook some dinner. That kills a couple of hours. After this I have nothing to do. I have tried joining clubs (tennis, squash, ceroc, boxing, swimming...) but due to constantly changing location, it has been impossible to get involved in a real social group. The cities I have moved to tend to have low populations and I dont know anybody there. Most of my colleagues are married or close to retirement. I have lost motivation to do programming or Photoshop projects because my work laptop does not allow installations. Plus, Id like to get away from the monitor. Weekends bring a whole set of challenges, too. Any ideas? Have some advice for Mr. Bored? Post it below! Do you have a problem that needs solving and want help from the Lifehacker community?
