How Green is your Bible? The Bible, and its interpretation, - TopicsExpress

How Green is your Bible? The Bible, and its interpretation, particularly Christian interpretation of it, have been accused of supporting our abuse of the natural environment, of encouraging us to see it as in some way fallen so that it is legitimate to exploit it for our own immediate ends. Is this claim true? Many words have been spoken or written on both sides of the argument, and whole fields of Biblical interpretation and theology have developed around the subject. One way to start to answer this question is to begin with the Scriptures and see what they seem to say to us today in our situation. Im proposing to offer some sessions to look at the passages of scripture which are often used in discussion, and some others which are less often encountered. Id like to do this in the style of contextual Bible study – which essentially means asking ourselves not, what did this mean to them at the time it was written, but what does this mean to us, now, in our present context. This means that we come to the sessions, not with a ready-made agenda to press forward, though we may have some ideas to contribute from our experience, but open to the ideas and insight which others bring. If you are interested, please let me know, via this page, letting me know what times might be suitable for you, and I will try to select the best sessions. Im aiming to begin in Creation Tide, the month of September on the calendar. John Parkin
