How a Predator Sees Values Our eyes are made up of millions of Value Rods but only 250,000 Cones that discern color. Therefore as predators, we are much more sensitive to the value of something we are seeing than the color. This is good news for an artist like me, who sees A LOT of color. This oil sketch was done one glorious afternoon while lounging around the swimming pool at the Villa Ercolano in Italy last summer. I looked over the wall to the sunny road below and just painted what I saw. Later, I got teased about the purple tree trunks and the yellow sky not to mention the blue road, but Hey, I understand that if the values are correct you can get away with more than just a yellow sky.
