How can we continue to ignore that a 7 tablet cost $180, and a 7 chartplotter costs $1200? What does a chartplotter give us? charts, sonar, radar, numbers. All of this information now comes in by electronic signals, and there are very few things that cannot be connected by nema 2000. I am wondering why no one has stepped up and made a replacement software/hardware pack that allows the iPad, or an android device to be used as the chartplotter? Think of it like this, you could have a second 7 tablet as a handy replacement in case of failure for just $180. If you fry a chartplotter, your out 1200. You may say, well the tablet is not waterproof, but they make cases. Allow me to ask you all this question, If such a product was offered for sale, would you buy it? It would incorporate all of the features a chartplotter does, full charting, gps, depthfinder/fishfinder, all engine information. Maybe even radar. If you would buy such a product, please like this post. Feel free to comment as to what you may want to see in such a product. The obvious benefit would be full active captain integration when inside a wifi signal area, such as a private hotspot. You would also be able to find weather thru the wifi, forecasts, email, ECT.
