How did it turn out? I asked them to say something about the perception change & having respect for sharks for their important role in the ecosystem. I know they were going to talk about the guy that bear-hugged a lemon shark. I asked if they could address that swimming with sharks without adequate water training and without a proper understanding of the animals and their behavior/body language is disrespectful & encouraging an accident to happen. If an accident happens because some ignorant person goes out and harasses a shark we all know that the sharks reputation and life will pay the cost of that persons stupidity. I hope the piece was positive for sharks, shark Eco-tourism, research and conservation efforts to help change peoples perception while simultaneously acknowledging that we still need to have great respect for these animals, their capabilities, & their role in the ecosystem. I support shark conservation, research, educational shark Eco-tourism. Bear-hugging a shark isnt an appropriate way to show respect for the animal or its capabilities but on the other hand, killing them obviously does a lot more harm. I hope people can find a balance, an appreciation for them and a healthy level of respect while enjoying the water with them. I encourage shark diving for those with advanced dive training under educational and qualified experienced guided situations because theres nothing like seeing them first hand and I know the experience will inspire others to speak up for them & help protect and preserve them.
