How do you warn humanity 100,000 years in the future that radioactive nuclear waste has been dumped below their feet? It may sound simple, but it is such a complex task that we are still unsure of how to accomplish it. Leave a note? The oldest written language in the world is a mere 5,000 years old and we can only understand a small portion of it. In 100,000 years the English language will not even exist. There will be many more world wars where countries will be destroyed and renewed. History will be lost entirely. Think about it, the only reason we know anything about the oldest civilizations is because they carved it into stone. In todays world everything is written on paper or on hard drives, both of which decay. Our culture will NOT last the test of time like the ancient civilizations have done. The things we wonder about today, such as the pyramids will be entirely lost in time and in 100,000 years they will wonder about new things from the past (probably built 90,000 years from now). The Egyptians tried their best to warn the future to not open the Pyramids, but we ignored it and dug in anyway in hopes of finding treasure. In even 10,000 years, we would find a dig site from the past explore it. Ultimately exposing huge amounts of radiation. The best idea they have come up with is to create an archive, where every new generation must alter the content to ensure the following generation will understand. But how long would this last? What happens in times of war or hunger? Natural disasters or disease? It cant be relied on working. Some scientists believe the very best course of action is to cover over the land and completely forget about it. It is an unthinkably long time.
