How does my work get derailed tonight? Like this: While preparing to list a Hooked on Phonics set, I discover several photo cds. One is from Walgreens and is marked Dec 07. I start to throw them away but curiosity gets the better of me and I decide to see what is on the discs. My heart breaks a little as I realize that I have some very precious family photos. A lovely family with adorable little twin boys and an even younger brother. There are close to 300 picture between two of the discs and as I go through them looking for anything that can help me identify this family, time progresses in the pictures and I see that the mother is pregnant, and then there are pictures in the hospital of the smiling family and a brand new baby girl, then Christmas pictures... oh, my gosh!! How can I throw these away??? I slowly go through each picture again, zooming in on anything that may give me a clue. Finally, it happens. The family is sitting on the beach, and I can see the islands in the background. Its Long Beach. And the father is wearing a shirt with the words In Loving Memory of Rueben Olelewe. Fifteen minutes and some various stabs at Google, and I have found the Facebook page of the father. He hasnt posted anything since last year but in the pictures he did post, I see that lovely family with the twin boys, the little brother and a sister who is no longer a newborn baby. One more Google, and I have a phone number and address. I hope to have the family photos back where they belong this weekend. I blame Nancy Drew for my inability to ignore a mystery. Now that this case is solved, its back to work (until the next distraction).
