How important is photosynthetically active radiation (PAR)? PAR is the only range of light that plants and phytoplankton can use for photosynthesis. It falls within the same wavelength band as visible light - between 400 and 700 nm. Ultraviolet light can damage cellular structures, while infrared light does not have enough energy to conduct photosynthesis. fondriest/environmental-measurements/parameters/weather/photosynthetically-active-radiation/
