This one time when I was very young, maybe in the second grade, we had to dress up like they did in Ancient Egypt. This one boy, who wasnt very popular, was picked to be the Pharaoh and our teacher had granted him with some beaded necklaces which he could give to anybody he pleased. Whoever was given the beaded necklaces would be on Pharaohs level. Every girl, even the popular ones started acting extra nice to this little boy. They asked if he needed anything, gave him chocolate, and said nice things to flatter him. I came in late and had totally forgotten about this class lesson. I sat down in my chair when John, the little boy, approached me. Hey, do you want my beaded necklace? Ew. No you have cooties. But I got my cootie shot. I still think youre gross. He looked at me for five seconds, grinned, put the beaded necklace around my neck forcefully and ran. Being like 8 at the time, I shrieked and was mortified. But years later did I come to learn the lesson that despite having the popular girls approach him, despite having the power/authority to do anything he wanted, that little boy treated me differently. By giving me those beaded necklaces, that day, he had treated me like royalty. You want to know if youre special to a man? And I mean a real man? Just like that boy handed me his necklace, a man will hand you his utmost honor, genuine interest,time, and respect. He will see you as his equal, and not his inferior. Your opinion will matter to him. Thats when you know, youre different.
